            Abstract :
Taking Beijing urban expressway as research object, the optimal traffic control strategies on model predictive control for ramp metering in urban expressway is considered in this paper. A generic problem formulation is presented in the format of a discrete-time optimal control problem whose numerical solution is achieved by use of the minimal principle on discrete-time non-linear system. An illustrative example with two pairs of entrance ramp and exit ramp is validated and the results demonstrate the efficiency of the approach proposed.
