  • Abstract
Heart valve replacement motivates the need to benchmark substitutes in terms of geometry and alignment. We present an application of our polarized light imaging method to characterize native and bioartificial heart valves. We interrogated a porcine valve leaflet with elliptically polarized light and an effective circular analyzer and using standard image processing routines and nonlinear regression, generated an alignment map for the leaflet
