Abstract
This paper introduces a new mobility management scheme that exploits the fact that most users follow a regimented daily schedule that can be used to characterize their movements. It extends distance-based scheme a step further by making the distance thresholds of a user change during the day according to his call-mobility pattern. Users are grouped in classes if they follow similar patterns. Mathematical formulation of total radio-link cost of mobility management is carried out. An algorithm is proposed to calculate optimal parameters which minimize it for a given record and to shift the user between classes if he changes his mobility pattern. A simulation is carried out to demonstrate the cost effectiveness of proposed scheme over distance-based scheme under various parameters.
