Abstract :
The authors propose the use of colored generalized stochastic Petri nets (CGSPN) as a tool for performance modeling of integrated systems. They also make use of neutral tokens and extend the CGSPN by introducing the concept of priority firings for different colors. They show that the underlying stochastic process of the extended CGSPN is till Markovian and numerical solutions can be obtained by a software package. As an application, they show how to use the extended CGSPN to model an integrated data/voice system. The performance of the integrated system protocol is evaluated by numerically solving the CGSPN model. It is concluded that the CGSPN is suitable for integrated system multilayer protocol performance evaluation in that it is able to model and analyze synchronization, concurrency, cooperation, resource contention from different layers, class identification, and priority services, which are difficult to model or numerically solve by queueing networks
