Abstract :
The conventional approach of parameters design for power system stabilizer (PSS), which aims at a special mode of low-frequency oscillations can not have the damping effect on wide range of low-frequency band. This paper presents a new approach to implement the parameters optimization of PSS controller. With genetic algorithm(GA), this approach can have better damping effect on all the main frequency band of low- frequency oscillations(0.2 Hz-2.5 Hz). Furthermore, the optimization object can be flexibly modified through a weighted calculation to different frequency bands. The effect of the suggested approach in damping local and inter-area modes of oscillations in multi-machine power systems is verified through eigenvalue analysis and simulation results.
