Abstract :
The aim of this paper is to investigate drives based on high phase number, inverter-fed induction motors. The drive presented in this paper departs from the traditional approach of marrying production three phase motors with voltage source inverters by seeking to exploit the freedoms arising from considering the motor and inverter as a combined unit. The use of squarewave excitation for the integrated drive is discussed as is magnetomotive force analysis. Power loss, efficiency and torque ripple measurements are also discussed
