Abstract :
Magnetic stimulation of the nervous system is increasingly used in neurological and neurophysiological researches as well as in psychiatry and psychology. New applications require engineering modifications that could decrease power consumption and coil heating. This can be accomplished by constructing coils with minimized resistance. A model is presented to calculate the coil resistance and the power consumption, taking into account frequency-related effects, such as the skin and proximity effects. Analytic expressions of the resistance are derived. Although simplified, the model could improve coil design
