Abstract :
A pilot based EM channel estimator is proposed. The channels are estimated using the EM (expectation-maximization) algorithm, while making use of pilot tones to obtain the initial estimate for iterative steps. Simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) can be significantly reduced compared with conventional algorithm and iterative times are less than the common EM algorithm. VLSI architecture for the algorithm is proposed
