Abstract :
A novel nonlinear robust power system stabilizer (NR-PSS) for large synchronous generators is developed based on nonlinear robust control theory. The nonlinear model of NR-PSS is established on the basis of multi-machine systems, which considers the transient salient effect of generators and kinds of disturbances in the system. Furthermore, an intelligent and digital industrial NR-PSS equipment is also developed. A new method for NR-PSS parameter setting which is based on the widely used frequency domain test for conventional PSS is also put forward. The dynamic simulation experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of NR-PSS comparing that with classical PSS. The results demonstrate the proposed NR-PSS can attenuate the oscillation of active power much faster and notably improve the generator damping, but also enhance the transient stability of the system and increase the stability limit significantly when subjected to large disturbances.
