Abstract
This paper reports on ongoing research aimed at investigating the acoustical noise emissions of field oriented induction motor drive systems. Details of the drive and control system developed for this research are given together with some experimental results. These demonstrate that the acoustical emissions from the motor differ significantly when either the torque or flux reference is modulated with an audio signal. Results also indicate that high band width vector drives have a good acoustical capability as can be demonstrated by modulating the torque and/or flux references with music signals
