Abstract :
CLP power (CLPP) started to study the installation of line arresters in early year 2000. Due to the increasing use of electronic equipment and facilities both on commercial and residential sectors in Hong Kong, power quality in particular voltage dips, is becoming a prominent issue faced by utilities. Installation of line arresters on OHL circuits is known to be an effective means to improve power quality associated with lightning on OHL circuits. In this paper, the installed systems will be introduced, and the reasons of selection will be explained. The project process and the problems encountered during implementation will also be discussed. In addition, the effectiveness of the system to avoid voltage dips will be reviewed together with the future plan to follow.
