Abstract :
The paper discusses the design optimisation for the linear-cylindrical variable-reluctance machine based on the criteria of maximum force per volume and the minimum ripple, under the constraint of constant dissipation. The flux-linkage/position/current characteristics were obtained using a finite-element field software, and the force characteristics were computed by the virtual work method
