Abstract
The design and predicted performance of a synchronous motor optimised for operation as a commutatorless series motor (CLSM) is described. Steady state analysis of the drive based on the relevant phasor diagrams is presented and this forms the basis of the optimisation. Computer simulation of the dynamic mathematical model of the system and results of study on an experimental set are indicative of the validity of the approach
