Abstract :
Modeling and design challenges of a revolutionary low power wireless hearing aid communication system are discussed. First, we discuss the need for such wireless system. Next, we outline the basic design blocks. These blocks include modeling of the human head, developing an ultra low power transceiver, and designing packaged antennas for maximum power transfer around and/or through the head. One important feature of these antennas is that they are directly matched to the transceiver, i.e. no matching circuit is required. A set of proposed design steps is presented with the corresponding suggested measurement experiments outlined. This general design/test methodology is also useful for other on/around body communications.
