Abstract
Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) projects, utilizing traffic information broadcast to automotive route guidance systems, hand held devices, and traveler information kiosks, are underway or being launched in several metropolitan areas in North America. The potential benefits of an open International Traveler Information Interchange Standard (ITIIS) are reported and the importance of a Standard Location Referencing (SLR) system as a component of that standard is discussed.
