Abstract :
The two major North American initiatives in digital map database standards: the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Truth-in-Labeling standard effort and the Spatial Data Transfer Standard, are discussed. The purpose of the Truth-in-Labeling standard is to define consistent terminology, metrics, and tests for describing the content and quality of street map databases for vehicle applications. The SDTS is an open and general standard for the exchange of spatial data. Profiles are used to specialize SDTS for particular application areas or types of data.
