Abstract
With the development of virtual reality simulation technology, virtual campus has become an important field of research. Oversimplified and lack of reality in most of traditional campus´s illustration; as a result, there are limitation for its practical value. The 3D model of virtual campus not only offers the natural, real, visual representation of real campus, and also keeps good interaction with users, so that audience could look through and experience with illusion that they are actually right there within the campus. This paper discusses the detail of 3D model simplification based on VRML and the shortest path in roaming. This issue can be solved by using of the LOD and GIS technology and develops a virtual campus navigation system. Example of Central China Normal University proved the feasibility of these technologies, and enhances the effectiveness of the system.
