Abstract
A new method is presented for characterizing the dynamic chemoreceptor response of the human ventilatory system to stimulation by CO2 using the Laguerre expansion technique (LET). The transfer function of the system relating the inspired CO2 as the input to the tidal volume as the output is identified by the LET. The identified transfer function shows an underdamped behavior with delay
