Abstract :
The ATT-ALERT and INTERCHANGE research and development projects, as part of the European Commision´s DRIVE II program, are working to create a common data exchange language. ATT-ALERT is developing a suite of traveler information system protocols which have the potential to provide solutions to problems facing travelers. The project has worked to develop an International Traveler Information Interchange Standard (ITIS) and bearer application protocols identifying how existing messaging protocols can be mapped onto particular bearers, and expanded to cover areas such as route guidance, parking and transit information. INTERCHANGE is addressing the key issues of consistent application of a data exchange standard throughout EUROPE. INTERCHANGE aims to establish a pilot network for the exchange of traffic and travel information between European countries, based on commonly agreed specifications and standards.
