Abstract :
A novel wireless neuromuscular control monitoring system was developed to assess joint proprioception. Two wireless sensor nodes and one base station were used with three TI CC2420 2.4 GHz wireless transceivers following IEEE 802.15.4 standards. Accelerometer sensors with moving-average-filter were used to monitor shoulder joint position sense of the subjects. Two independent listener threads with different communication ports were created to guarantee data transmissions at a rate of one data point per 10 msec. The system can potentially be used to evaluate the effectiveness of various treatment techniques in altering neurophysiologic influence on body segments thereby altering neuromuscular control.
