Abstract :
As more and more extensive application of Linux, a lot of Linux software produced for a variety of applications. With more and more applications running on Linux system, for example openoffice, firefox, virtualbox, GCC, etc. the software performance testing based on Linux kernel is becoming important on Linux platform. The kernel of operating system has a great impact on system and is easy to get information of software running on it. Software performance testing based on system kernel can give us a unique insight into the software, provide us useful information in determining the bottlenecks and weaknesses of the software, and thus enable us to improve it. This paper discussed the method of testing the performance of Linux software based on Linux kernel, which included how to design workload, how to test network load, how to test I/O load, how to get system parameter. Finally we analyzed the method of calculating CPU utilized, memory utilized and time measurement. We have done experiments on different Linux such as fedora, ubuntu, red hat. Experiment results show that the methodologies of software performance testing based on Linux kernel is completely realizable and efficacious. The methodologies presented in the paper can help to build comprehensive test software for Linux application.
