Abstract :
A new configuration of high-power current-controlled voltage-source AC/AC power converter suitable for AC motor drives and static VAr controllers is presented. This topology with small reactive components is based on three six-switches current source AC/DC converter modules used backwards and controlled in a special way to minimize the converter losses. The effectiveness of this AC/AC matrix converter to open-winding induction machine drive while providing unity power factor and low input harmonics is demonstrated theoretically and by simulation. Moreover, the advantages of this new converter when compared to regular solutions are outlined and the application within a Vector Control drive is detailed
