Abstract
In this paper, we propose an adaptive filtering algorithm for prediction signal utilizing the Wiener filter to improve the coding efficiency of the H.264/AVC standard. The proposed algorithm first calculates the filter coefficients for the current frame by using the prediction and original images of the previous frame. Then, filtering is selectively applied to each inter-predicted macroblock (MB) according to the rate-distortion (RD) optimization. By using the proposed adaptive filtering, the error between the original and prediction signals is alleviated, which results in the reduction of the total bitrate. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves 3.55% bitrate saving on average compared to H.264/AVC.
