Abstract :
The success of paratransit depends on reliable, efficient service. Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) offers the promise of a technological means of addressing this need. The author reports on accuracy required, consistency of reporting the frequency of polling and display requirements. The experience gained from a low cost application of AVL to both paratransit and fixed route systems in Des Moines, Iowa is discussed.
