Abstract :
In the technique of single-ended modern traveling wave based fault location principles for transmission lines, traveling wave correlation method is a classical algorithm applied to detect the fault reflected surge. But in actual application, the lack of an effective way to choose the time window results in the limitation of correlation method - the time window width affects the correlation coefficient value which is an important indicator to show the similarity of the waveforms. This paper presents a new conception called optimal time window width of correlation method, and analyzes different factors probably affecting the width by means of EMTP-ATP and Matlab applied to simulations. Further more, the basic idea of new correlation method based on multi-time-window is proposed, which could be applied to improve the reliability of fault location technique.
