This paper examines the legal parameters that regulate Internet communications in the United States and includes the following arguments: Senate hearings on privacy, censorship and government control of Internet communications, the current debate regarding the exportation of encryption software and the laws that govern encryption as part of a national security measure, the United States constitution as it applies to the Internet, encryption, and transfer of information in an international setting
