  • Abstract
This paper presents design and implementation of an active power filter (APF) with a minimum apparent power point tracking (MAPPT) scheme to improve power quality under distorted input voltage. The proposed APF with an MAPPT scheme can further improve the power quality over that of a conventional zero-crossing detection method. The main idea of the proposed scheme is to keep on shifting the filtered input current (almost no harmonics) with an angle and then recalculating the apparent power to check if a minimum apparent power point (MAPP) has been reached. Once a MAPP has been reached, a high power factor and a minimum current stress can be achieved. Simulated and experimental results are presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed MAPPT scheme
