Abstract
In this paper a solution to integrate video surveillance into RFID units for remote scene monitoring is proposed. The method is comprised of two major building blocks, namely an RFID transmitter operating at 240 kbps, and a very low complexity image compression engine. The latter is realized with field programmable gate array (FPGA) using small amount of gate count and no external memory.
