Abstract :
In this paper, we propose an efficient ray tracing method based on a 4-ray model considering a real urban canyon environment characterized by building distributions. In order to reduce the computing time, reduce the complexity of the ray tracing algorithm, and easily apply the method to an existing GIS containing building information, the relationship between the 4-ray model and a roadside building width index (BWI) relating to the building distribution information around the received signal is considered. The modified 4-ray model can efficiently estimate propagation characteristics, including path loss and fading, in an urban canyon environment.
