Abstract
This paper presents an overview of the recently enacted Electricity Act 2003 and evaluates the implications of the provisions of the Act for the Indian power sector. The Act has introduced major policy shift and is likely to have far reaching implications for the power generation, transmission and distribution scenario within India, and more importantly, is likely to act as a model for other countries to adapt and adopt.
