Abstract
This paper presents an expert system for turbomachinery diagnosis, using fuzzy logic and certainty factor techniques for uncertainty maintenance. Implemented in FuzzyCLIPS, the system identifies and ranks vibration causes by performing incremental forward chaining. It allows vibration causes generated earlier to be revised in response to the revision of observed symptoms. The ability of the expert system to identify causes of typical vibration problems in rotating machinery is supported with tests on real cases
