Abstract :
A harmonized strategy for breaking the acoustic resonance in fluorescent lamps under low-level dimming is proposed. A proposed harmonized circuit (HC) is installed in parallel with the lamp as a current-dependent source for modulating the lamp current. The lamp current before harmonizing is almost monotonic, but is harmonized and spread by the HC. Due to the energy spread, the acoustic resonance disappears and no helical form occurs in the lamp at low-level dimming. A harmonized model is established for analyzing the lamp performance. The harmonized approach is also built for disturbing the acoustic resonance. An experimental example is examined to assess the validity of the presented HC. The time and frequency responses of the lamp current with and without HC are clearly displayed for comparison
