Abstract
We address the problem of separating position-varying mixtures of images. Such mixtures occur, for example, when a reflection is superimposed on a desired image by placing a semi-reflector in the optical pathway. Non-uniform light sources and/or a curved semi-reflector create a mixing system which is a function of the spatial coordinates. We use a staged sparse component analysis (SSCA) approach, in which the images are sparsified as a preprocessing stage. The mixing system is estimated in the first stage and the inverse problem is solved, in the second stage. We deal with three major types of position-varying mixing systems that encompass interesting applications. We implement our approach and illustrate its applications in separation of images.
