Abstract :
Sensor networks are expected to be used in hilly and mountainous area. In these usages, the sensor data should be transmitted to receivers in real-time. There are, however, networks where the use of UDP is not permitted. In the case of TCP transmission, transmission of the latest sensor data is delayed by TCP´s retransmission control after connection outage recovers. In this paper, we have proposed Retransmission-Controlled TCP that can continuously transmit only the latest data when connection outage occurs, and have evaluated an effectiveness of Retransmission-Controlled TCP using error model of cellular networks in hilly and mountainous area. As a consequence of the evaluation experiment, the time required for the client to receive the latest data is only 1.07[s] per a connection outage. Therefore, it is concluded that Retransmission-Controlled TCP can transmit the data in real-time such as UDP after the connection outage recovers.
