Abstract
We propose a face identification system based on the Mahalanobis-Taguchi system (MTS). The MTS is one of the pattern recognition methods frequently used in quality engineering. The MTS can perform robust pattern recognition by using various training data including noise. It is likely that this advantage is effective for implementing the robust face identification system against the fluctuation of lighting and the position of the face. We confirm the effectiveness of the proposed system through computational experiments. The experimental results revealed that the robust face identification system could be implemented by using the MTS
