Abstract :
The instantaneous frequency (IF) of a signal is often used as an aid to time-frequency analysis of non-stationary signals. In this paper the comparative study of the optimal discrete IF (DIF) estimator, the Kay-Tretter DIF estimator, the central finite difference (CFD) DIF estimator and the smoothed CFD DIF estimator are presented in the case of a signal distorted by Gaussian white noise. The advantages and disadvantages of these commonly used DIF estimators are concluded
