Abstract
The IEEE 802.11p wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) is defined to provide a networked environment supporting very high speed transactions to enable safety and mobility applications. Adaptive Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) mechanism based on IEEE 802.11p WAVE for vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) to improve medium access ratio is proposed in this paper. The priority categories are re-classified from safety information for driver life to non-safety information. When the existing IEEE 802.11 EDCA mechanism operates, it will be referred by priority level. In case of collision, the Contention Window (CW) values increase. But this concept is designed to control CW depending on the density of the vehicles for improving throughput of each access category.
