Abstract :
Structures represented by semi-ellipsoids, spheres or cylinders allow analytical electric field solutions. These have been used with physical modelling to determine striking distances as a function of lightning current, structure height and structure curvature. Optimum radii of curvature are calculated for maximum striking distance. Topographical effects are also examined
