Abstract
In this paper a tapered slot antenna array has been analyzed and designed. Both the simulation and measurement results show that the antenna array has scanned impedance bandwidths over the frequency band of 1.8-9 GHz and scan angle up to 45deg. This work reveals that the strong mutual coupling between elements has good effects to the overall performance of the array. It can be well used to achieve good active impedance matching of the array with tapered slot antenna elements have poor isolated impedance matching. Thus for the ultra-wideband arrays the mutual coupling is essential and we should utilize it but not fight against it.
