Abstract :
The global earth observation system of systems (GEOSS) is an environmental priority at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), within our U.S. interagency community, and within the international community because it has enormous potential benefits for the entire world. Over time, GEOSS provides an important scientific basis for sound policy and decision making in every sector of our society including energy, public health, agriculture, transportation and numerous other areas that shape the quality of everyday life. In less than two years, the number of participating countries has nearly doubled, and interest has grown since the recent tsunami tragedy. Over 40 international organizations also support the emerging global network. In the coming months, more countries and global organizations are expected to join the historic initiative.
