Abstract :
Flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices are installed in substations in order to enhance the operation of the electric power transmission and distribution system. To accomplish that, solid-state electronic devices may be connected either in parallel or in series with electric power lines, for the purpose of regulating voltage and optimizing power flows. These devices (e.g., thyristors) inject high frequency voltages and currents into the power system. The electromagnetic fields generated by them have the potential to interfere with the operation of nearby electronic devices. The paper provides equipment immunity requirements from several applicable standards.
