Abstract :
In this paper, we demonstrate this idea of quality factor enhancement with external corner perfect electric conductor (PEC) posts in the case of a two-dimensional (2D) RDR using the method of moments/surface integral equation (MoM/SIE). First, the separable RDR is designed by means of the method of separation of variables. Next, the designed RDR´s with and without posts are compared using MoM/SIE, and the results are validated by the finite element method (FEM) solver HFSS. It is shown that the resonance frequency can be close to that of the separable RDR when the PEC posts are placed close to the corners. Finally, a substantial quality factor enhancement is obtained as a result of the presence of the posts.
