Experience with partial discharge monitoring of high-voltage motors

Partial discharge measurements on about 100 6.6 kV motors at the Lamma Power Station in Hong Kong are reported. Initial analysis shows the data to be repeatable and to demonstrate steady ageing effects; clear differences between motor types and duties, and the ease with which motors suffering abnormally high deterioration may be distinguished.
