Abstract :
Demand for interconnectivity from local area networks (LANs) to wide area networks (WANs) has been increasing rapidly. Several strategies exist to provide LAN/WAN internetworking capabilities, with each method exhibiting distinct performance issues. Performance issues are presented for bridge, router, and Brouter technologies specifically as they relate to WAN networking. The case of an ISO-to-X.25 router is discussed including a set of recommendations to improve the performance of such a router.<>
