Abstract
Based on a lifting technique, we associate with a general multirate analysis-synthesis system an equivalent, linear time-invariant (LTI) system whose transfer matrix is shown to be the product of two matrices, each composed of appropriate polyphase components of the analysis or synthesis filter bank only. In terms of the two matrices, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the system to achieve complete alias cancellation and perfect reconstruction. The results also lay the groundwork for a systematic design of nonuniform filter banks for perfect reconstruction
