  • Abstract
    This paper offers an open distributed substation automation system which adopts industrial standards in hardware and software to meet modern electric power utilities aim for operation efficiency, substation automation and lower maintenance cost. The key technologies supported by industrial standards in the power systems control area include RISC processors, UNIX operating system, X-Window/Motif graphical user interface, Ethernet-LAN, TCP/IP, fiber optics, open communication protocols, and object-oriented design.
