Abstract :
One of the main disadvantages of the traditional STATCOM is that it generates a considerable amount of harmonics. This paper presents an alternative control strategy of a STATCOM based on hysteresis current control. Simulation results show that the supply current waveform can be controlled to be nearly sinusoidal in form regardless of whether the STATCOM is supplying or absorbing reactive power. The proposed device was simulated using ATP-EMTP, and the results demonstrate the advantages of hysteresis control.
