Abstract :
This paper proposes a cross-layer design-based, multi-path routing protocol (CMRP) for mobile ad hoc networks. In combination of the upcoming IEEE802.11e standard in MAC sublayer, we determine that CMRP benefits from this new technology significantly. Performance evaluation of AODV in legacy 802.11 and CMRP in IEEE802.11e shows that, as a function of speed of node mobility, a tremendous reduction achieved, in metrics such as the average end-to-end delay, routing overheads, route discovery frequency and normalized routing load with CMRP - almost more than 80%, 40%, 40%, and 40%. In the case of varying number of sessions, the reduction for route discovery frequency, normalized routing load and average hopcounts of active routes are up to 70%, 80%, and 50%.
