Abstract :
Chirp signals have a wide range of applications, such as channel impulse response measurement, Doppler shift measurement, SAR, UWB, and more. A special usage of chirp signals is to simultaneously transmit both an up and a down chirp. One application of such a signal pattern is to measure closing velocity/Doppler shift and time of arrival of transmitted pulses from a moving source. The receiver is comprised of two matched filters; each filter is the matched filter for the respective chirp. The analysis of such a scheme appears in the literature for narrowband chirps. Many important applications exist where wideband signals are used. In this paper, analysis for wideband chirps is presented. Some problems originating due to the assumption of wideband chirps are outlined, and solutions are proposed. The results are demonstrated by simulation.
