Abstract :
The traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA) is widely utilized in RF amplification for radar transmitters. This application requires very low phase noise in order to distinguish a moving target from strongly reflected clutter. This paper provides better understanding of the phase noise behavior of a TWTA and discusses new methods to substantially suppress this noise.
